Beautiful single mom Rachel Keller (Naomi Watts) takes her son Aidan (David Dorfman) from Seattle, where she left with horrific memories that will never be erased, and moves to live in Estria, Oregon, next to the ocean. Rachel got a job at a local newspaper and lived a fulfilling and busy life. One day, the newspaper received a message that two young people had died after watching a mysterious videotape, and one was in a trance, and the familiar scene and the untitled videotape made Rachel sensitively aware that the nightmare of the past was about to return. She burned the tape in an attempt to stop the curse of the bell from spreading and endangering the world, but she didn't expect disaster to befall Aidan.
